The following is an example of a typical day’s activities:
Session 1 (60 minutes):
Free play time including sand, water, painting, play dough, home corner, jigsaws, lego, cars, dressing up etc.
Session 2 (45 minutes):
Tidy up, toilet break, wash hands, take register, learn “colour of the week”, do numbers and alphabet, day of the week and weather. The playgroup also includes Irish language activities.
Lunch (30 Minutes).
Session 3 (45 minutes):
Story, songs, rhymes or dance to music (different activity each day). Weather permitting outdoor activities are included.
Each session takes into account the Siolta (The National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education), Aistear (the curriculum framework for children from birth to six years in Ireland) and the Early Childhood Ireland organisation curriculum and includes appropriate activities for each time of year/season.
Following these activities it is time to put on coats to go home and a well-deserved rest for us.
